On (some) Tuesdays I write about education and then post to the Two Writing Teacher blog. and then comment on at least three other blog posts
The Last Week
The students' last day is Friday. The weather here in Wisconsin has not been springlike, so the timeline seems way off. This year's end feels much different for me.
As a coach, my last day is not until the 15th of June. I will have some meetings and trainings between now and then, but much of my time will be spent on material management. With a new reading curriculum this year I have been tasked with counting the books from the toolkits and the wide reading baskets in order to determine how many books have been lost. The district does plan to replace some of these lost materials. It is a bit tedious and I feel like I have to chase some books around the school but that comes with the territory.
For many reasons, I have been cleaning and purging at home and at school. I find myself often muttering to myself, "Why in the world did I save this?"
There are many items I do not have an issue recycling or giving away, but books are proving difficult. I am keeping books that are signed to me from the many authors I have met. I am keeping the ones that I have reread 100's of times over the course of my career. I have given away countless books and I will continue to give away more this week.
I guess these next few weeks will be material management for personal and professional reasons!
How do you decide what to keep and what to let go each school year? I would love to know in the comments.
