Chaplain's chat
If God so loved us, can we not love one another? Having been forgiven, can we not forgive? Having feasted at the table of Grace, can we not share a few crumbs?
When I read this, I recalled a conversation I had with a friend of mine who works as a community engagement worker. He and a couple of his friends decided to spend a night living on the streets to experience how the homeless live.
He shared with me the struggles he faced just from one night, but was comforted by the fact that he had a home to go back to. He was challenged and saddened that many people suffer that existence every night and day.
There is that tendency to categorize or judge those who are homeless, as perhaps being no hopers, bludgers and think of them as people without much worth.
We are all God's creation and He values them just as much as He values us. Jesus tells us in Matthew 25:31-36, & 40 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. Before Him will be gathered all the nations, and He will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And He will place the sheep on His right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right, "Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. I was naked and you clothed me. I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me." Then He said to them; "Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to Me. Then He will say to those on His left, depart from me you cursed....."
Heavenly Father, help us to consider and treat others as those who are precious to You. Help us to care for those who are less fortunate than us. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen
