Isaiah 8:16-18. The Message. "Gather up the testimony, preserve the teaching for my followers, while I wait for God as long as He remains in hiding, while I wait and hope for Him. I stand my ground and hope, I and the children God gave me as signs to Israel, warning signs and hope signs from God-of-the-Angel-armies, who make His home in Mount Zion."
Have you ever asked the question, "Where is God in all of this?" or 'Why did you let this happen God?' Leslie Koh writes;
Lela was dying of cancer, and her husband Tim, couldn't understand why a loving God would let his wife suffer. She had served Him faithfully for many years as a Bible teacher, and mentor to so many. 'Why did you let this happen?' he cried. But Tim continued to be faithful in his walk with God.
I asked him, 'so why do you still believe in God?' - 'what keeps you from turning away from Him?'
'Because of what has happened before', Tim replied. While he couldn't 'see' God now, he recalled the times when God had helped and protected him. These were the signs that God was sill there caring for his family. 'I know that the God I believe in will come through in His own way.'
Tim's words echo Isaiah's trust in God. Even when he couldn't feel God's presence as his people braced for trouble from their enemies, he waited for the Lord. He trusted in God because of the signs He'd given of His continuing presence. (Isaiah 8:17-18)
There are times when we might feel as if God is not with us in our troubles. That's when we depend on what we can see of His works in our lives; in the past and present. They're the visible reminder of an invisible God - a God who is always with us, and will answer in His own time and way.
His promise is sure "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
Heavenly Father, thank you for that promise, and for your constant love and care for us. Lord when we feel like you're not near to us, help us to remember your faithfulness in the past and your promise that you will never leave us. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.
