The New York Times app is a staple in our family.
An established evening routine is to play and work out the Wordle, Mini Crossword and Connections games. Pretty much in that order. The Wordle is always our first port of call. We have a few starting words that we need to confab on before taking off and I always smile as my son delights in an early finish ( 3 tries or less), and then, how diligently he goes through the Bot's responses to see if we beat the Bot i.e.what the different starting words were, all the various statistics on how many people got target the word on their 2nd, 3rd, 4th try. So much analysis (!). I am not sure I would have ever even thought to look it all up but it's so much more fun doing it together.
The mini cross work is usually where we go next. Although the choice of words can be very US specific, for the most part it is quick and satisfying. We don't usually time ourselves...its just fun to get it done.
Connections can be the most random, I think. That being said, there is always lots of good conversation about why certain words might go together... and often lots of laughs. Reshuffling the words on the 4x4 grid helps my brain see different combinations that I might not have thought of before. This is the game we probably complete the least... but its a fun one to try.
Then, there is the NYT Cooking app. I discovered it a couple of years ago and am now well and truly hooked. We have tried all manner of recipes from salads to cookies to slow roasted beef. So much to love about this app- so many weeknight saves and so many options to choose from.
I don't spend much time on the front page of the app... I think I care a little less for peppering my senses with that scale of desolation and destruction.
The games and the recipes are definitely worth stopping for.
