Chaplain's Chat
Psalm 103 v 13 and 14 "As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion for those who fear (respect/awe) Him. For He knows how we are made: He remembers that we are dust".
God is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. God does not deal with us according to our sins (what we deserve) - but forgive us. The passage also reminds us of the great compassion God has for us. God knows how we are made. This is a very personal insight for each of us.
God knows our story from the beginning - how we were made, our genealogical history, and of what we were made, our personality, intellect, strengths and weaknesses. God knows all the truth about us. God also knows what things have impacted on us, making us who we are today.
God does not judge us harshly, criticizing us for our failures, but instead looks at us with compassion, understanding that sometimes we don't like ourselves or what we do.
Jesus came to restore us to Himself and have faith to believe that He can do something for you. I don't know what the future holds, but I do know who holds the future.
Prayer:
Lord, today, help us to sit in your compassionate gaze. Help us not to hide from you the parts of ourselves that we don't like, but to bring them out into the open and ask you to heal us and make us whole. Help us today to look on ourselves with compassion, mindful of where we have come from, as well as the gifts we have been given and the challenges we face. Give us the grace to look on others with the same compassion with which you look at us. Help us to be like you - merciful, gracious, love, generous and forgiving.
