The BFI Film Academy is a free training scheme for young people aged 16-19 who are not currently enrolled in University.
Over the ten-week programme, running on Saturdays from 6 November to 1 February, masterclasses in acting, directing, screenwriting, producing, camera, editing, sound and cinematography will take place.
It is an ideal course for young people who have an interest in a career in acting, scriptwriting, or filmmaking, but don't have the resources or contacts to make it a reality.
The course will teach hands-on filmmaking and culminate with the creation of two professional-standard BFI Film Academy short films. The 20 successful applicants will also gain a Level 2 NCFE qualification called Preparing to Work in The Film Industry over the duration of the course, and make valuable industry contacts.
Alumni of the course have found it to be a really rewarding opportunity in terms of developing new skills and a great insight into how the film industry works. Some of them have gone on to secure work placements at Warner Brothers, BBC and Disney.
The Academy is particularly welcoming of applications from those who are currently underrepresented in the film industry, such as women, BAMER people, those with a disability and applicants from low-income backgrounds. This year, there is no course fee to ensure that everyone can attend.
To find out more about the course, or how to apply, visit the Showroom Workstation website or email: BFI.Academy@srws.org.uk.
The deadline for applications is Wednesday 16 October.
