Spirit of wisdom and revelation

In my daily devotion today entitled 'Understand your identity', this scripture from Ephesians chapter 1 verse 17 was read in the NIV version – saying "I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better."

It really struck me – that the reason given here for receiving the Spirit of wisdom and revelation – is so that we may know Him better. Wow! John chapter 17 verse 3 tells us that 'this is eternal life! That we may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ Whom You have sent'.

This is eternal life! Knowing the Father – Knowing Jesus, our Lord and Friend. Walking with Him. Talking with Him. Hearing His voice leading and guiding us and reassuring us of our safe place 'in Him' and of His constant, unfailing love and faithfulness. He counsels us with His eye upon us.

So how does this relate to our identity? Regardless of our natural birth circumstances we can have confidence that we are adopted and fully accepted in the family of God, when we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. With the help of Holy Spirit, the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, we can daily grow in our understanding and the realization of this great gift – we are indeed children of God and thus have full access to all His provision for our needs. He is indeed a good, good Father.

Blessing
