Saturday Secrets: LGBTQ+ Twin Mama
Tips on living a calmer life as a working mama sent to your inbox every weekend

Working Parents,

Today, on the Mindful Return blog, I'm excited to share the working mama story of Cait Zogby, one of our Mindful Return alums.  Earlier this year, we announced our 7 specific ongoing diversity and inclusion commitments (Mindful Return's Diversity Commitments: Reporting Out from My Work with a Diversity Consultant), and we are focused on keeping the momentum going.  One of our commitments was to use the power of storytelling, to weave the perspectives of a wide range of working parent experiences into our weekly blog posts and newsletters.

This interview is the fourth in our "Amplifying Stories" series.  Cait is a member of the LGBTQ+ community, mama of twins, and the Co-Founder and Chief Community Officer at MotherNation.  Tune into this week's post for her important perspectives on doing work that matters, neurodiversity, and especially her advice to parents on using gender-neutral language in referring to kids and parents: Amplifying Stories: Cait, LGBTQ+ Working Mama of Twins.

After spending quality time this summer at some stunning National Parks and noticing a lack of diversity among park visitors, I was excited to learn recently about an organization called Colour the Trails.  They advocate for "inclusive representation in outdoor spaces," and declare themselves to be "a collective of BIPoC and LGBTQ2S+ adventure seekers."  Follow them on Instgram @colourthetrails.

More Working Parent Resources

1. Feeling stretched, overscheduled, and maxed out?  Join me with Laura Vanderkam and Dr. Christina Shenvi, as the 3 of us keynote a UNC event, "Empowering Your Time".

Pre-Delta surge, I was scheduled to be one of 3 keynote speakers at UNC's Women in Medical Sciences Fall Retreat, in North Carolina on September 24, 2021 from 9am-1pm.  Our in-person travel has been called off, but our loss is your gain: the event is now online and open to the public!   Here's the link to register:

Empowering Your Time, Sponsored by the UNC School of Medicine, Friday, September 24, 9am-1pm

(Note: the event is a "Women in Medical Sciences Fall Retreat," but you don't have to be a woman in science to attend!)

2.  Want to learn directly from the person who has been the nanny for celebs like Justin Bieber, George Clooney, Brooke Shields, Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake, and Jessica Alba?  Join me for a live conversion with Nanny Connie!

To kick off Mindful Return's fall book talk series, I'm so excited to speak with Connie Simpson, "nanny to the stars" on Thursday, September 30, from 12-1pm Eastern.  We'll be talking about her book, The Nanny Connie Way, and about all things baby care and new parenthood.   Hope you can join us!  You'll have a chance to ask her your own questions, too.  Register here!

3.  Struggling to Take *Real* Breaks + Vacations from Work?  Join Me for a Mindful Return Mini-Retreat / Workshop on October 15.

After taking a 4-week long, soul-restoring trip across the US last month, I'm feeling inspired to host a hands-on, interactive 90-minute mini-retreat / workshop entitled "Intentional Vacation Planning for Working Parents."  During our time together, I will share more about the framework for my own trip, and we'll also take a deep dive into themes including:

  • Mindset around vacations and travel
  • Work issues and negotiating time off
  • Financial considerations and money plans
  • Managing kids as you travel
  • Deciding when to unplug and not

Sign up here, and I promise you'll walk away from our time together with new ideas for how you and your family can explore this big and beautiful world around us.  It's a world we often don't take much time to see, but that is there waiting for us at any moment.

When?  October 15, 2021, 1:30-3:00pm Eastern / 12:30-2pm Central / 11:30am-1pm Mountain / 10:30am-12pm Pacific

4.  Our next Friday Clubhouse chat will be on Friday, October 1.

Since the spring, I've been hosting chats on Clubhouse through Moms Club on Fridays at 12pm Eastern about everything related to parental leave and thriving in working parenthood.  You can follow @mindfulreturn on Clubhouse to have these events show up in your feed.

Clubhouse Chat: Friday, October 1, 12-1pm Eastern: Parental Leave & Juggling Work + Baby.  Hope you can join me there!

All the best for a mindful return,

Lori
