What teens need for uni, plus four fab interviews

HEY WOMOS

Aaaaaaaand... that's a summer-holiday wrap people! We did it WoMos, the ultimate 6 week juggling act! I hope you've all had wonderful summers and got some great time off in with your little (or big) ones. School bags are packed, new shoes at the ready - new school year, let's do this WoMos. To serve as some inspiration, we've got not one, not two, not even three... but FOUR fantastic Meet the WoMos interviews for you. Plus a brilliant list of what you may need for your teens when you send them off to uni.

Also a quick reminder about our fabulous new tech platform! WoMo is a subscription platform that sits between the employee and the employer, supporting the life changing journey of having a baby. WoMo is changing the way HR champion their female talent. The WoMo platform is easy to use, priced to offer exceptional value, offers benefits to the employer and the employee, and is changing the way we engage mothers in the workplace. SENDING YOUR TEENS TO UNI

Thank you to WoMo team member Jo Scattergood for this post. Jo, we are thinking of you!

A non exhaustive list of what they might need in their first year.

Well the results are in, the offers are on the table and the sites have been visited. That's it, she's off to university, just like that, in the blink of an eye and I can hardly believe it. She's the 1st Scattergood to go to university and we are all very proud of her achievements, despite Covid 19 doing it's level best to muck things up! Her sister has just tested positive for Covid and we are awaiting her results and keeping everything crossed that she doesn't miss those all important first few days.
I'm not going to talk about empty nest syndrome, because I have another 2 kids that will require my attention but by golly, I'm going to miss her.

When you become a parent for the first time, you can't think any further than the next feed and nappy change. The days blur into nights and weeks into months and before you know it, you're looking at nurseries and thinking about having number 2!

Those milestones that you rush toward in the first instance are suddenly all a distant memory and the thought of this now fully grown adult going out into the big wide world by herself terrifies me. I think she's a bit terrified too. Excited, but terrified. This is where I find out what kind of job I did…

I never went to university and neither did her Dad, so we are a bit green when it comes to expectations. We have lots of friends that can support us and her and her two Aunts that will be more than willing to offer up advice, but ultimately, it's down to the three of us to work it out. I don't even know where to start! She is on it though, phew. Here are our "preparing to go to university" lists that have been compiled.

MEET THE WOMOS: JEN

I run my own business working from home called Mads & Moodle, I offer a baby and family life casting services, creating special unique keepsakes. I have two children 7 and 4, so working and childcare is a bit of a juggle. My youngest starts school this September though, so I hope to have a more regular timetable of childcare to plan my working day around. I often work weekends whilst my husband has the kids, I do like having a career that I am able to fit around my children and family life rather than a typical 9 to 5.

MEET THE WOMOS: SOPHIE

I'm Sophie, a reflexologist, Bounce fitness instructor and Co-Founder of Reset Days. Reset Days is a company creating wellness days. My good friend Louise Summerfield and I launched this in 2019 born out of a need for somewhere for people to re energise and practice self care. Our days are based around three main objectives to Nourish, Rest and Move so think fitness classes, mind and body practices, workshops/talks/Q&As, healthy food and just time out! I absolutely love working with Lou!

I've been a reflexologist for almost ten years now and love it! I do foot and facial reflexology as well as Zone Face Lift treatments. I work from a treatment room at home. Reflexology is my absolute favourite treatment to receive. It's so powerful!

My love of Bounce (mini trampoline fitness) inspired me to be an instructor so I trained and qualified at the beginning of 2020. Nothing better than the energy of teaching a live, energetic, sweaty, fun, fierce class!
Leo is 11 and Scarlett is almost 7 so they are at school when I work unless I have a weekend Reset day so my husband does the running around. I'm REALLY fortunate as I have so much flexibility in my work meaning I can do school drop offs. (Actually, come to think of it…not always a joy when they never clean their teeth, get their shoes on or know where their school stuff is! Carnage)

Childcare is a mix of after school clubs, an after school nanny and me!
