Marvel Comics has announced the next creative team line-up for its X-Men Legends anthology series, and it's a returning team from earlier in the series run. The husband-and-wife team of Louise Simonson and Walter Simonson will return to the series in January for a one-shot story featuring the New Mutants that promises to reveal new information about iconic X-villain and Louise Simonson creation Apocalypse.
Here's how Marvel describes January's X-Men Legends #11:
The search for Apocalypse's next horseman is on and where better to look than amongst the next generation of mutantkind? Catch up with some old friends — like Sunspot, Cannonball, Wolfsbane, Dani Moonstar, Boom-Boom, Rictor and more — as Caliban leads Pestilence and War, the remaining horsemen of Apocalypse, in a hunt for new blood to join their ranks! Witness this never-before-seen link between the New Mutants and Apocalypse in the latest revelatory X-MEN LEGENDS adventure on January 26!
Along with the Simonson announcement, Marvel also teased what X-fans have been waiting patiently for: the return of Chris Claremont to the franchise, with an Excalibur-centric story coming in February's twelfth issue of the series
Earlier this year the Simonsons teamed for a two-issue X-Factor story in X-Men Legends #3-4. Other creators who have worked on the series spotlighting different eras of X-Men history include Fabian Nicieza, Todd Nauck, Larry Hama, and Phillip Tan.
An iconic writer who helped revitalize and popularize the X-Men in the '80s and into the '90s, Chris Claremont's last work on an X-Men comic came in 2018 with a Kitty Pryde-centric story in the X-Men: The Wedding Special one-shot. Claremont has also contributed to 2019's Marvel Comics #1000 special, and to last year's Wolverine: Black, White, & Blood anthology series.
Look for X-Men Legends #11 from the Simonsons in January 2022, and for the Claremont-written X-Men Legends #12 in February 2022.
