Last night in her bedroom at our house before she strikes out on her own. This kid can do anything she sets her mind to. She's going to be just fine. She's ok.
I'm not ok.
As much as I've nagged at her in the past - don't leave dishes in the sink, put your shoes away. Why am I getting calls from your school every day? When are you going to get your laundry out of the washer? (Until it starts to smell and I wash it again, for her).
Julie, what is this mess in the bathroom, I LITERALLY cleaned it half an hour ago. Julie, I made a huge meal and now you're ordering Uber Eats!
Julie, you've been lounging in that chair for FOUR HOURS now - are you going to get up and like, do anything today? Julie are you eventually going to clean that pigsty you call a room (and no, don't bring out that clarinet again).
Oh, wait.
While I was nagging, she WAS doing stuff. She was acing high school while I was getting automated calls about her attendance.
She was tired after working in a bowling alley till three in the morning, to have her own money. She was driving herself to college.
She was getting her real estate license after a part time job sparked a passion.
She was getting on with her adult life while I did all the usual Mom stuff, and before I knew it, she was ready, and off she goes, tomorrow.
I'm gonna miss my kid.
This is always your home, my Juliet, and you'll always have a key.
You can appear whenever you want, and I'll be sure to call before I come so I don't drive you nuts.
