The turkey is purchased and in the freezer. In these tough times, this is going to be one of our most inexpensive, yet, the meal will be as tasty as years past. We are having guests this year. Today, I planned two desserts. Confession time, I do not like pumpkin pie. My husband and my son LOVE, LOVE pumpkin pie. My daughter and I not so having it. We are so thankful this year to have guests.
I have written out the menu. I have sewn new napkins, place mats, and a tablecloth. I arranged a dry flower arrangement from greeny and flowers from my garden. I made little bark place markers that we will make into Christmas ornaments. My table arrangement and setting are zero cost and zero waste because I have shopped our home.
I planned from start to finish for the preparation of the meal. We needed to pick up turkey and cranberries. We are cooking everything from scratch from the pantry and our garden. Music is selected. We are blessed with a bounty that we have grown, and the well-stocked pantry. My husband will debone the turkey and separate the white and dark meat. During the meal, I will add the bones along with the vegetable peels to my pasta pot with a few teaspoons of white vinegar to create a rich broth.
One thing people neglect during Thanksgiving planning is how to plan to put away the leftovers and use the leftovers. I use glass serving dishes that I use to put leftovers away. I plan how to use the left over turkey over time. My family over turkey soup and turkey potpies. My husband loves turkey sandwiches. We always purchase the largest turkey possible. It saves us a ton of time not purchasing deli meat, having a cooked protein, and a ton of broth.
Remember to clean and pick up as you go along. I always do a fancy pinup hairstyle with a well-made up face. I wear a stylish outfit to cook in, so I do not look frumpy as our guests arrive. Twenty minutes before, we sit down, I excuse myself to change into a fresh outfit. Honestly, I like to go for the 40's and the 50's house wife vibe in makeup and dress. This year, I will be wearing copper 1950 jewelry set that I wanted to wear at a Fall wedding we attended. I will be wearing teal.
I am wishing all my readers a wonderful holiday season blessed with warm family memories.
