More than 100 jobseekers attended the second Sheffield's Working Jobs Fair, which took place on Tuesday 12 April at Terry Wright Community Hall in Gleadless Valley.
The event, organised by Opportunity Sheffield in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, brought together unemployed residents from the local area with a range of employers currently advertising entry-level job vacancies.
Who attended the event?
Jobseekers were able to engage with local, regional and national employers from a number of growth industries - those currently seeing increased demand for staff.
Plusnet, the NHS, South Yorkshire Police, Hays Construction, Connect, Lynx Care, Excel Care and Places for People were among the employers on-hand to discuss current opportunities, invite CVs and take expressions of interest.
Opportunity Sheffield staff were available to guide jobseekers around the fair and offer information, advice and guidance (IAG) relating to other employment support and training options.
Attendees could find out more about Opportunity Sheffield's ESF Pathways, Sector Routeways, Advance and Advancing Digital programmes, which are part-funded by the European Social Fund.
Various local support organisations from the voluntary and community sector were also present at the Terry Wright Community Hall.
These included Manor & Castle Development Trust, which has specialist keyworkers for ex-offenders (Ambition project) and out-of-work people with health conditions (Pathways to Success), and The Suit Works, which provides an employability focused clothing and grooming service for people hoping to make a great impression at interview.
The National Careers Service, which provides CV-writing support for unemployed people, was also represented at the fair, enabling jobseekers to register their interest in an appointment.
Further jobs fairs throughout 2022
The Gleadless Valley event was the second in a series of jobs fairs organised by Opportunity Sheffield and Jobcentre Plus, following the inaugural event at St. Mary's Church, Bramall Lane, on February 22.
