Gunmen kill 49-year-old man in Ondo community
A 49-year-old man, Abayomi Olukoju, has been killed by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Ajowa-Akoko, Akoko North West Local Government, Ondo State.
Olukoju was believed to have died while attempting to flee from kidnappers.
The bandits were said to have laid siege on the road when the victim was traveling between Ajowa and Akoko/Akunnu.
According to a source, Olukoju was on his way back to his station in Obajana to resume duty, and the deceased was a Dangote firm employee.
He did, however, revealed that some passengers from Abuja spotted Olukoju's lifeless body in a pool of blood and reported the incident to the police station.
A resident of the community, Soji Ogedengbe, who spoke on the tragedy, bemoaned the constant killings in the community, claiming that many inhabitants had been kidnapped and killed in recent months.
Ogedengbe claimed the community's leadership has set in place many steps to curb criminal activity through communal security arrangements, but that bandits have never stopped terrorizing the residents.
Confirming the incident, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Muri Agboola, said detectives from command had been dispatched into the forest to apprehend the killers of the deceased.
