Students protest in Yola over ASUU strike
Students from various tertiary institutions across Adamawa State have protested the strike currently in place by their lecturers, members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The students expressed their grievance by barricading the 1.6km bridge which links state capital Yola to much of the rest of the state.
The barricade on the Jimeta Bridge caused heavy traffic buildup on both ends of the bridge most of Monday, effectively cutting off Yola from much of central Adamawa and all of the northern part of the state.
The students who protested under the auspices of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), said the protest was in line with directives issued by the national President of the union.
Comrade Anasam Maspalma, NANS Joint Campus Committee (JCC) chairman of Adamawa axis, said, "The protest is our fundamental right to show our dissatisfaction against the action of ASUU/FG that led to the closure of our universities.
"Students are tired of the strike. We are saying enough is enough for the ASUU/FG strike. As it is, graduating students can not mobilize for service under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
'We want to go back to school and continue with our students."
