The Founder of The Salvation Army, William Booth, was a man of great vision with a determination to serve God and man! A man fully focussed on the task at hand.
The work and mission of The Salvation Army began in England back in 1865 when Booth saw the terrible plight of the people in East London at the time, and with the calling of God on his life, determined to 'make a difference' for good. The history of the Army's mission make for interesting reading. A part of our ongoing local mission expression, is providing practical and pastoral support to our Court family, and of course, to the visiting court users and stakeholders. It is our privilege to serve you and God in this way.
Back to William Booth; I was reading an article entitled 'The Secret of William Booth' a few days ago. Here is something of what the article said; 'in the early days of The Salvation Army, the biologist and sceptic Thomas Huxley, launched an all-out attack on The Salvation Army and the founder. Booth's son (Bramwell) was very upset over it. Booth told his son that he couldn't waste time fighting critics, or else he would be distracted from the Lord's call – and he would let nothing divert him from it. 'Bramwell' said Booth, 'fifty years from now, it will matter very little indeed how these people treated us. It will matter a great deal how we dealt with the work of God,' Booth was powerfully used of God to affect a nation and a world, why? He didn't allow himself to be distracted from the call God gave him.
There will always be people who criticise or attack you. No one can take you away from God's calling (on your life) unless you let them. Don't let yourself be distracted or turned to the right or to the left – and you will live a powerful life for God.' A great quote from a book I read
This week may you know God's blessing on your life's calling.
'The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face towards you and give you peace' Numbers 4;24-26
In the Gospel of John Chapter 13: Our Lord and Our Friend washed the disciples feet. He washed between their toes, it is intimate, messy and tender.
Jesus could have gone his entire life without kneeling and washing. He Himself as King desevered to have His feet washed, not the other way round. This event was entirely not needed.
But it was Our Lord and Our friend's heart. God is so lovingly humble that He will stoop to even the most menial of tasks to show the intensity of His Love.
God loves us individually, here he is washing 24 feet and intimately more 120 toes, even the feet and toes of someone who would betray Him Judas.
This is the same Love that led The Son of God to lay aside His Heavenly Glory and take 'the very nature of a servant {Philippians 2 verse 7}
To take from this and understand, we are loved with this depth of tender, intimate, intensive love.
