WoMo Newsletter: Tuesday 16th August 2022

Hey WoMos

How is your summer going?  This week I'm in Norfolk with the fam.  An annual event where we bring the family together, rent a couple of cottages and do the UK holiday thing.  I have been coming here since I was a little girl.  It is funny how families carry on the traditions!  I am taking my teens to a festival too at the weekend which should be a good adventure.  I have to confess, I have booked a pre-erected tent.  I can't do the whole camping thing without feeling utterly exhausted and that isn't a break in my view.  Kudos to all of you who manage to camp with kids. You deserve a medal.

In other news, our website for Ludo is live.  The parent company to WoMo.  And you will see us transitioning across to using the Ludo site.  It represents all we do to support women in the workplace, not just those having babies.  I am so excited to be expanding our offering to companies to truly offer tech for inclusion, with a specific focus on women.  I read a couple of weeks ago, productivity losses topped $150m globally, relating to the menopause.  That's just one reason why our next module is all about the menopause.

This week we have 6 tips to become an authentic leader, how to improve your listening skills and your invitation to join us at the red tent women's circle on 25th September.

Please remember to introduce us to your employer.  We want to have a chat with your Head of HR or Diversity & Inclusion lead on how to retain female talent.

Sending you all good vibes for the ongoing school hols.

6 TIPS TO BE AN AUTHENTIC LEADER

People want to be led by someone real who they can trust. Furthermore, young people do not respond to command and control or being told what to do.

Leadership influencers have encouraged us to see a new way of leadership for example Brene Brown advocates showing vulnerability. She says that for real connection to happen we have to allow ourselves to be deeply seen.

Heart centred leadership recognises that for too long we have focused on the brain for our thinking and instead counsels us to listen to our hearts to grow our emotional intelligence, focussing on our values and showing compassion towards ourselves and others.

Guest writer Kim Gieske worked in senior HR roles for many years before becoming a Strategic HR Consultant and Executive Coach

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR LISTENING SKILLS

Beth Collier helps senior leaders become more confident, respected, and inspiring. Listening is particularly important at a time when we are all communicating via phones and screens. Effective listening requires more attention in a crisis.
