Carl's Thoughts for Today - 11 October 2022 -Marriage
My wife and I have now been married for over fifty-two years. And I'll tell you what I have found out. Marriage is not living together, "playing house". And it is not about some words on a paper. It is much, much deeper than that.
Here is where I may unset a few people, but it is my opinion, you do not have to agree.
Marriage is a lifelong commitment between TWO people and God; a man, a woman and God. (I say two in this manner to show it takes both people working together; one can not do it on their own.)
The vows said in a wedding ceremony are a sacred oath said before God and man (people) , a commitment that is meant to last a lifetime.
In my opinion the one that does the most work in a marriage is God. He is the one who blesses the union, strengthens the union and grows the union. All the couple needs to do is follow His guidance and obey His will.
I am not here to tell you how easy it is. I am not going to lie, it can be very hard at times. Even when both people are striving for the same goals. There will be disagreements, discord and hurt feelings that must be worked through. But in those rough times if BOTH people are listening and following God they will grow closer to each other and the union becomes stronger.
I can't speak for my wife but these fifty plus years have been an adventure I would have not wanted to miss. Or done with anyone else. Oh, I'm sure there were times she wanted to strangle me, (yes, I deserved it.) But even in those times when we were angry at each other, there was love. And true love can only come from God.
Satan is hard at work in every marriage, trying his best to destroy it. Satan will throw everything in the book, sex, money problems, lies and confusion, anything to destroy a good marriage. That is why we must have God and all He gives us to defeat Satan. We need to always remember our vow of commitment, we need prayer and lots of it, we need each other, and we need to understand who it is that is trying to tear it down.
