#NewComicsDay and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! The end of the year is closing in and there's a lot of trades coming out to consider as other titles are coming to the end of their stories. Lots to choose lots to get in on and all available at our sponsors two locations All C's Collectibles. Get em while they last, it's a hot week but for now we've got five stacked high ready to fly.
Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #6> THE PENULTIMATE CHAPTER OF THE DCU'S BIGGEST EVENT OF THE YEAR! War erupts as more heroes are killed at the hands of Pariah! The fate of the Multiverse depends on the young heroes of the DCU as they clash with Deathstroke and the Dark Army! Can the resurrected Justice League race home to Earth-0 in time to join the fight…even if it could mean that not everyone gets to return?! And what dark powerhouse rises on the battlefield? Do not miss this incredible breakneck battle royale! (S) Joshua Williamson (A) Daniel Sampere
Smurfs Take> To the top of the must-read list with a bullet after last issue as we close in on the end of the story. Maybe it's lack of DC titles that this jumped out the way it did, or there's something really here. It's been a great mystery complemented by the perfect reveals along the way instead of rushing it all into the end. This is the DC I love, this is the DC we miss, and wish we could have more of this return to the shelf. Classic in the making!
Fantastic Four #1> "Whatever Happened To The Fantastic Four?" It's the start of a new era for the Fantastic Four...and they're already in a ton of trouble. Something has gone terribly wrong in New York, and the Thing and Alicia are traveling across America to escape it! But when they stop in a small town for the night and wake up the morning before they arrived, they find themselves caught in a time loop that's been going on since before they were born...That's been going on since before they were born...That's been going on since before they were born... (S) Ryan North (A) Iban Coello
Smurfs Take> The First Family returns again? I have lost track of how many restarts, reboots, relaunches this is for the team and while there were a couple of good stories in the last series (Doom of course) it turned out rather flat. I don't know if the time of the four has past or Marvel isn't taking the care of their characters as they should. I do know I've been missing a good FF story and would like to see a Sci-Fi epic like the days of old and this looks like it could have that and more.
Amazing Spider-Man #13> Hobgoblin's story comes to a chilling end, and no one is going to be rocked harder by it than Norman Osborn! Witness the birth of the Gold Goblin! What does this mean for our Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man?! (S) Zeb Wells (A) John Romita
Smurfs Take> For the record I'm here for Zeb Wells story not so much for the art. Where the art has been alright, average at best the story has been anything but. It's been a classic Spidey story with some interesting twists and seeing Hobgoblin back has been a great trip down memory lane recalling his first appearance. It takes a bit getting use to Osborne and Spidey working together but fits well within the story.
Batgirls #12> Boy, do the Batgirls have some tea for you! Literally. Cass and Steph go down a rabbit hole of madness when they're invited to Mad Hatter's tea party. But with the death of yet another Hill resident looming on their shoulders, they're one step closer to finding the serial killer. (S) Michael Conrad, Becky Cloonan (A) Neil Googe
Smurfs Take> This has been a fun read and worth the pickup every month. The best use and development of these characters I have seen in a long time. It still has the feel of a Batbook but has elevated to a whole new level, passing the Batman himself in my opinion. I like where this title is going, it holds a huge promise for the future of these characters and could lift up the remainder of the Bat titles.
Two Graves #1> SERIES PREMIERE Emilia and the man with the veil of smoke have set out for the ocean in a stolen truck. There's a bloody handprint on his neck. She's beginning to worry it's hers. Death and the Maiden go on a road trip. Nobody gets out alive. A new series from writer GENEVIEVE VALENTINE (Catwoman) illustrated in competing points of view by ANNIE WU (Hawkeye Black Canary) and MING DOYLE (The Banks DC Comics: Anatomy of a Metahuman). (S) Genevieve Valentine (A) Annie Wu
Smurfs Take> I don't know how Image does it and I think I want to keep it a mystery. How they continue to generate such compelling stories and art is astounding. Sure, not all of them are hits, and that's expected and also might not be a hit for me but still resonates with other readers. Fact of the matter Image continues to try, continues to experiment, and push the foundation of comics where other publishers fear to tread. I like the concept behind this and excited to see how the story develops, everyone likes a good road trip story.
Hellboy & BPRD Return of Effie Kold & Others> Travel from the Appalachian Mountains to Russia and France, and all the way back to Savannah, Georgia as Hellboy returns to take on phantoms, demons, and reanimated foes. Collected in one volume for the first time, revisit some of the most beloved Hellboy short stories, including The Return of Effie Kolb, Long Night at Goloski Station, The Seven Wives Club, Her Fatal Hour and The Sending.
Dive into these harrowing adventures with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola as he's joined by artists Zach Howard, Matt Smith, Tiernen Trevallion, and Adam Hughes, along with colorist Dave Stewart, for a stellar fright fest!
(S) Mike Mignola (A) Tiernen Trevallion, Adam Hughes, Zach Howard, Matt Smith (CA) Mike Mignola
Smurfs Take> Great collection of stories and is a must have trade for any collector. If you put off picking up these issues or just missed out altogether now's the chance to get them. Also, a great stocking stuffer…just saying.
