Dealing with Difficulties - Anxiety
Anxiety is an emotion and is more than just feeling stressed or worried.
We all have situations where we feel 'under pressure', and when they are resolved, the anxious feelings usually subside. However, if these feelings don't subside, and are ongoing without any particular cause or reason, this anxiety can make it hard for a person to cope with daily life. However, we have access to help; our Lord and Friend who is the God of Hope.
God wants us to express all our emotions to Him, both good and bad. It is by the word of our testimonies, testimonies meaning the things we have done and gone through, good and bad, that will help others understand the Hope we have in Our Lord and Our Friend.
How do you respond when everything in life seems to be going badly. There is one example in 1 Kings 19. Elijah.
Elijah's experience comes as an encouragement, the great man of God has a weakness, and his emotions really were just like ours.
Elijah became physically tired - emotionally and spiritually drained - felt lonely - was afraid.
Does that sound like a great man or woman of God. We are all created with emotions and God wants us to use them all.
2 Corinthians 12 verse 9 "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weakness, so that Christ's power may reside in me."
Elijah was an Old Testament character, but he knew the power of God, because he had often been used by God to display it. God did not abandon Elijah, and God will never abandon us. Read His promise Hebrews 13 verse 5.
Elijah achieved great things for God, but he was only a man like the rest of us, created in the image of God, a three part being; spirit, soul and body. We tend to forget God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things, but challenges may still overtake us.
Psalm 23 verse 4 "Even though I walk through the darkness valley, I fear no danger, for You {God} are with me: Your rod and Your staff they comfort me." Remember the word "through", remember GOD IS WITH US through it, for guidance, help and comfort.
Proverbs 12 verse 25 "Anxiety in the heart, weighs one down, but a good word, makes one glad." Proverbs 27:9 "Ointment and perfume delight the heart; and the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel". Do you have a friend/counsellor/leader who you can confide in? Someone who will pray with you and give you hearty counsel?
We are never alone once we ask the King of Kings to come into your life. He is the best friend we will ever have.
Blessings
