This week's key messages:
- Data from the second half of 2022 show that economic inactivity is continuing to fall. A (record) high movement of working-aged people from economic inactivity to employment, particularly amongst those aged 16 to 24 years and 50-64.
- Analysis of the social factors influencing life expectancy finds that educational disadvantage carries the strongest association, followed by income, crime, and employment. Together these factors account more for life expectancy outcomes than healthcare itself.
- NHS waiting lists have continued to grow since the pandemic. IFS analysis finds that the backlog can't be solved quickly, and the speed will be determined by the rate of increase in treatments.
