Chaplain's chat
John 14: 6 and 15 "Jesus said 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.' 'I you love Me, you will keep My commandments'".
A Christian, who was struggling, went to see his Pastor. I've read books on discipleship, done theology courses, and spent long hours preparing for the Bible studies. But I'm struggling with how to be a victorious Christian. So the Pastor picked up a hymn book and opened it up to these words: "Trust and obey, for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey".
That's the answer, I believe. God never said that the Christian life would be easy, but how to live it is simple. We live in obedience to Him, and walk by faith. We take God at His word, doing what He tells us, and receive His blessings.
In trusting and obeying, sometimes we find ourselves wanting to do God's part as well as our own. Maybe you have a problem that seems to have no solution - maybe a child that's gone astray, or there's been a fracture in a relationship. You can do your part by praying, loving and communicating, and then trust God to convict, convert and change.
Every problem is an opportunity to trust; every situation is an opportunity to obey. When it comes down to it, our Christian life falls into those two categories; trusting and obeying.
Heavenly Father, thank you for your provision and your faithfulness to us and our families. Would you show your favour to us and our families. Would you show your favour to us as we strive to trust and obey you? In Jesus Name I pray. Amen
