So Far So Good - I'm a creature of habit and I'm definitely living outside my comfort zone. If possible, I always fly SWA and I fly out of Bergstrom International Airport in Austin. This morning was different. I am flying out of San Antonio.
I'm doing a round trip to Lubbock and back today. It has been years since work commitments have enabled me to go back and forth on the same day. Initially, it sounded like a good idea when I booked my flight. I wouldn't need luggage.
This past Friday, getting caught in a quagmire of traffic on HWY 281 in San Antonio was a game-changer for me. What if the same thing occurred to me this morning? Consequently, at the General's assistance, I booked a hotel room near the airport and spent last night in San Antonio.
Lucky me, I was inside the terminal at 3:56 a.m. for a 5:25 flight. It was too early to get a cup of coffee. I guess you could say, I'm having a bad hair day.
Perhaps it carried over from last night. I made the discovery that I failed to bring my iPad with me. It is normally in my backpack. Last night it wasn't. I need it for the presentation I'm making today.
Not to worry - Who am kidding! I was up until 10:30 p.m. last night putting words to the thoughts I wanted to share. Even then, I had no guarantee I'd figure out a way to get it printed.
I'm thanking the good Lord and my lucky stars that the staff person at the hotel consented to print what I needed to be printed. So I'm off and running.
As it turned out, negotiating parking at the Airport in San Antonio was really easy. I may never find my car again, but that is an issue I won't worry about until tonight.
I checked in at a kiosk at the airport and was walking away when the person who was behind me tapped me on the back and said: "If left something. You've got more." How was that possible? I had my boarding pass from San Antonio to Dallas and from Dallas to Lubbock. The lady was right, there were two more boarding passes for my return flight.
I guess you could say I then followed the crowd. I didn't see a TSA Pre-check line, but there were "Clear" signs about every four feet. Questioning if I was in the wrong line, the lady behind me assured me it was the TSA Precheck line.
The gate attendant asked when I handed him my driver's license, "Don't you want to go through the TSA Pre-check line? He even offered to walk me over. This was going to be a piece of cake. Paying to get TSA approved has paid off big time. I hate taking off my shoes at the airport.
I walked through the sensor and the alarm went off. How could that be? I emptied my pockets and put everything in my backpack before I walked through.
The security person told me to take my shoes off. I questioned her instructions: "I'm flying TSA-Precheck and I don't have to take my shoes off?" She assured me that I had set off the alarm and that the first step in resolving the problem was for me to remove my shoes. I said "Yes Ma'am" and did what I was told.
It is 4:30 and I still need coffee, but wanted you to know that I am a creature of habit. I arrived at the airport and hour and a half early.
All My Best!
Don
