Showroom Cinema has just opened applications for this year's BFI (British Film Institute) Film Academy Residential. This training and development opportunity is open to anybody aged 16-19.
The course is a BFI Film Academy specialist course in Cinema Programming for the indie cinema circuit consisting of a one-week residential stay in Sheffield (31 July - 4 August) with daily workshops and masterclasses, followed by three online Saturdays. Over the duration of the course, young film fans from across the UK watch a wide range of cinema and work with industry professionals to plan and put on their own week-long film festival at Showroom Cinema in Sheffield.
Previous film festival themes chosen by the young people taking part have looked at Perfect Failures (films that flopped upon their initial release, but went on to gain a cult following), F-Rated Animation (animated films with people who identify as women at the helm), Films Made by and Featuring Disabled Artists, and the Future of Artificial Intelligence.
Following on from last year's success, Showroom are inviting applications from any aspiring filmmakers who want to learn about the business side of the screen industry, as well as young film fans hoping to get experience in the exhibition, distribution, and marketing of films.
More information can be found and applications can be made at https://www.showroomworkstation.org.uk/bfiacademy2023/residential
The deadline for applications in Monday 10th July at 2pm.
