Yesterday the General and I attended a college graduation luncheon and celebration for Cody Judkins. The crowning moment was subsequently being present at Tarleton Memorial Stadium yesterday evening to observe Cody receiving his college degree.
Long story short - this young man's college graduation is nothing short of a miracle. Cody's story isn't mine to share, but I can attest to the fact that during his early formative years, he was a kid from a hard place.
The normal trajectory of the challenges he brought with him into his preadolescence age years often doesn't end well. Fortunately for Cody, a place called Miracle Farm helped change that trajectory. The tagline for Miracle Farm is: "Forging Young Men of Integrity and Character."
Two things were pivotal in orchestrating a different outcome for Cody. Paul Judkins, his maternal grandfather, and his wife Jana, intervened to secure Cody's safety. They also recognized that Cody had a lot to overcome and they contacted Miracle Farm for assistance and support.
Chris and Renda Welch, houseparents at Miracle Farm, provided the daily structure, supervision, nurture, and encouragement Cody needed. They chose not to give up on Cody when at times he had not yet learned not to give up on himself. In essence, their presence coupled with the professional counseling services, on-campus school, and horse program paid huge dividends.
Cody lived in the home of Chis and Renda for six years. What an investment of love they provided. Of course, Cody's determination and hard work coupled with the support, encouragement, and prayers of many have seen Cody land in the winner's circle.
It certainly proves that a psychological evaluation that said in essence, don't expect much, could not have been further from the truth. It is no secret what God can do.
Cody's determination and hard work coupled with the support, encouragement, and prayers of many have landed him in the winner's circle. By the way, Cody has a job waiting for him as a management trainee with GMI Texas, one of the largest builders in the country. He starts to work on June 5, 2023.
