Chaplain's Chat
Psalm 136 verse 1 and 25 "Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, for His love endures forever. He who gives food to all flesh; for His steadfast love endures forever."
The story is told of a woman who took her deceased husband's computer to a recycling center. The computer was built in 1976, and well past its use by date. But more important than when it was made, was WHO made it. It happened to be one of the 200 computers hand built by Apple founder Steve Jobs, and was worth an estimated quarter of a million dollars! Sometimes knowing the true worth of something, means knowing who made it.
Knowing that it's God who made us, shows us how valuable we are to Him. Psalm 136 records key elements of His people (ancient Israel): how they had been freed from captivity in Egypt; journeyed through the wilderness; and were given a new home in Canaan. But each time a moment of Israel's history is mentioned, it's joined with this repeated refrain; "His love endures forever". This phrase reminded the people of Israel that their experiences were not just random historical events. Each moment had been orchestrated by God, and was a reflection of His enduring love for those He has made.
Too often we allow moments of God's work and His loving ways to simply pass us by, failing to recognize that every perfect gift comes from our Heavenly Father who made us and loves us. May we all recognize and thank God for every blessing He sends our way.
Heavenly Father, please don't allow even one blessing that you've given pass by without us recognizing that it came from You, and You alone. In Jesus Name. Amen.
