What would you like for Mother's Day this year? A diamond bracelet? An enormous Starbucks gift card? I've got one: What about an entire day off… from your kids? Meg St-Esprit dropped a bit of a bomb recently when she revealed that she won't be spending Mother's Day with her kids at all — they're going camping with their grandparents, because that's the weekend that worked for them. "I saw surprise register on a few faces, a bit of envy, but also judgment. As mothers, aren't we supposed to want to be with our kids on Mother's Day? We pose for the photos, accept the macaroni art cards, and joyfully eat the lukewarm buffet breakfast while stopping our kids from opening every jelly container on the table. That's what Mother's Day is. The fact that I am opting out this year feels strange to everyone — even to myself, if I am honest." What do you think? Do you want to spend Mother's Day with your kids, or blissfully alone? Kelly Faircloth, Executive Editor |
