Life can interfere with writing. I've been wanting to finish my work in progress and I have lots of ideas floating around for what I want to write next, but...
My daughter is hospitalized with heart issues in a hospital a few hours away. I've been stressed and writing is a good outlet for stress. I've used it before. However, I'm writing a scene which is a really happy one and a turning point for the book. My personal emotions are interfering.
In the past, I've used writing in suspense scenes as an outlet for such emotions. They help to get into deep point of view. But the heart of a mother can't use negative emotions to connect with the heart of a brand new mother in a book. Right?
This might be a time to outline one of the ideas I have for a new book. It would be both an escape and provide the necessary mood to add to suspense. OR I could skip finishing this scene and go a few chapters deeper into my current book where I can let some anger and frustration escape onto the page!
For a writer, it is true about how we pour our hearts onto the pages we write and how pieces of ourselves are a part of every book. A sports writer, Red Smith, once said "Writing is easy. Just open your veins and bleed."
I'm at a standstill this moment, but by evening I will be moving forward with writing, or should I say bleeding?
