We're at my in-law's house for Father's Day, and there was this baby dove in the nest made in a hanging outside basket.
One of the dove parents suffered an unfortunate incident at the paws and jaws of one of their cats a few days back.
Life goes on, and the toddler dove has been hanging out at the edge of the basket these past couple of days, appearing to be gathering the nerve to fly.
This Father's Day afternoon, the surviving dove parent returned to the nest and perched on the heating unit next to the baby.
Emboldened by the parent's presence, the baby bird at last fluttered from the nest to the heater.
Then, together they flew to a nearby trash can where they are sitting until the baby is ready for the next step.
Fly baby, fly. In your own time.
