#NewComicsday and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! Seeing the end of a few titles and the launch of so many more this week. Lots of choices for the fans but when it comes to comic shops there really on one. The sponsor of Smurfs top 5 picks, All C's Collectibles offering the best discount for hold slots in town so you never have to worry about missing an issue again. We are ready to dive in with Smurf's take on the new titles because we've got five stacked high ready to fly:
Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2 #1> SEASON 2 OF THE HIT DISNEY+ SERIES IS HERE! GROGU AND DIN DJARIN return in CHAPTER 9: THE MARSHAL! The Mandalorian is drawn to the Outer Rim in search of others of his kind. Following rumors of another Mandalorian, he instead comes face-to-face with MARSHAL COBB VANTH wearing a very familiar armor! Mando and Grogu have stepped into a situation bigger than they realize! Following the tradition of season one, RODNEY BARNES & GEORGES JEANTY reunite to bring season two to life once more! (S) Rodney Barnes (A) Georges Jeanty
Smurfs Take> So many things were done right with the season one series and to see a season two fills me with even more excitement than I can explain. I almost would say this is more Star Wars than the actual shows have been. At its heart this series captures all the energy and youthful joy, complimented by a great story. It's perfect.
Incredible Hulk #1> THE AGE OF MONSTERS HAS BEGUN! As an enraged Hulk tries to take control of Bruce Banner's body permanently, a mysterious immortal turns every monster in the Marvel Universe against Banner in an attempt to free their creator, the primordial Mother of Horrors. With the help of an unlikely new friend, Banner and Hulk must try to stop the world from getting plunged into darkness in this terrifying new series! (S) Phillip Kennedy Johnson (A) Nic Klein
Smurfs Take> To call the last Hulk series a woeful disaster is being kind. Inside Hermans Head meets Lower Decks, and the epic train wreck that followed was painful. Thankfully Marvel has seen the error of their ways and have gone back to what makes the Hulk so much fun….smash. The War of Monsters sounds like all of the best elements of past runs pulled together while maintaining the horror element and keeping some mystery.
Wonder Woman #800> "Whatever Happened to the Warrior of Truth?" concludes in a landmark 800th issue! Diana's visions become more vivid as she finds herself trapped in the dreams of those around her! As she struggles to escape, her life as Wonder Woman hangs in the balance. When the dust settles, will she still be the Amazons' greatest champion? Find out in this extra-special celebration! (S) Becky Cloonan, Michael W. Conrad, and Tom King (A) Joelle Jones, Todd Nauck, Daniel Sampere
Smurfs Take> One of the last few titles remaining from the DC Rebirth relaunch in 2016 to make it this far. This marks the end of that run as DC moves forward with their new vision and story line for Wonder Woman with a few new surprises. Might be enough to shake up the title a little since the last run was just sort of there with decent stories but nothing tremendous.
Batgirls #18> The Saints are back-well, one of them is, and he's out for revenge on the Batgirls by putting Mr. D, Alysia Yeoh, and all their other friends in danger. Turns out they have history from long before the Saints, and no one holds a grudge longer than a man scorned. Is it enough to run the Batgirls out of town? (S) Becky Cloonan, Michael W. Conrad (A) Robbi Rodriguez
Smurfs Take> Sad to see this end, and it feels rather premature to me. I still think this could've fit just nicely into the new direction of DC with some fun crossovers. I hope they don't shelve these characters after seeing the huge potential with them and I for one love these characters.
Ultimate Invasion #1> THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE BEGINS! Superstar creators Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch team up! The Illuminati must form once again to stop the Maker from his plans to destroy - or perhaps rebuild - the universe, with Miles Morales at the center of it all! Bryan's work on THE ULTIMATES helped redefine super hero comics for the 2000s - wait until you see what he and Jonathan have in store for this decade! Including new data pages by Jonathan Hickman - plus exclusive behind-the-scenes material on the world-building that has gone into this project! (S) Donny Cates, Jonathan Hickman (A) Bryan Hitch
Smurfs Take> Well all of my favorite creatives on one title makes this a must have for me. I also was a huge fan of the Ultimate Universe back in the day as Marvel experimented with a more grounded approach and introducing us to some familiar characters with a twist. Regrettably they go lost in the weeds on this and Spidey was the only one that really came out on top (and well Furry as well). To go back with a new idea is exciting especially coming from this team.
