I have friends that find it strange that the General and I moved to a golf course community. Neither of us plays golf and virtually know nothing about the game. However, I'm finding that a close view of the cup on the 13th green can tell you a lot about human behavior. Our view from the oversized window in front of the kitchen sink frames the 13th green nicely.
One of the things I've found surprising is that the cup is not stationary. It is not located in the same location day after day. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, the cup gets moved to a different location on the green every day. Thus the flag by the cup indicates the location.
As a casual observer, I've noticed there are golfers who appear to be on the quest of winning a marathon. They golf hurriedly. Do I need to say that again for emphasis. They golf hurriedly. I see golf carts go by our windows full speed ahead, to then stop abruptly as the golfer(s) quickly disembarks from the cart and heads to the green. I guess those are the lucky ones.
I've seen a few golfer head in the direction of the back of our home looking for their ball. The General's brother-in-law, who plays golf, suggested we start collecting the balls we find in our space. While he was visiting from Florida, he picked up three golf balls. He maintains they were of good quality and sell for $48 a dozen. He told me I could collect them and send them to him.
Some golfers stop their carts short of the green and are scratching their head as they look carefully in the sand trap to see if they can find their ball. I haven't noticed any golfers throwing down their club in frustration, but I'm sure that happens.
Hey, it's only a game. Why take it out on a golf club? Most of the golfers that I've noticed seem to know their way around the course and they are goal directed to spend as little time on the green as possible.
Yesterday afternoon, I could not forgo the chance to take a picture through our kitchen window. If I had a title for it, I would call it "Precious Moments." The three golfers in the picture are not close enough to identify, but it appears to be a father and his two young children. The three of them were sharing time together, and they each had their own golf club.
I am certain the two children will never forget sharing that kind of quality time with their dad. Kudos to him for giving priority to things that matter most. It made me feel good for the remainder of the day.
All My Best!
Don
