Friendship
I was pondering on what to write this week and the thought came to write
about friendship.
Hmmm. A couple of Scriptures came to mind, Proverbs 17:17 "a friend loves at
all times"; Proverbs 18:24 ' there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother";
Exodus 33:11 "the Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks
with his friend"; and also, Jesus said in John 15:15 "No longer do I call you
servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing, but I have
called you friends, for all the things that I heard from My Father I have made
known to you."
One description of the true meaning of friendship was 'a state of enduring
affection, esteem, intimacy and trust between two people'.
Another description of the true value of friendship was (1) appreciation –
friends who value one another, will share gifts, exchange compliments, and
foster a sense of mutual respect; and (2) Ease: being able to spend time
together and understand one another is a strong sign of friendship.
Proverbs 27:6 NKJV says "faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of
an enemy are deceitful". What an interesting Scripture. The Amplified Bible
translation "faithful are the wounds of a friend (who corrects out of love and
concern), but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful (because they serve his
hidden agenda)". What a blessing to have a friend whom we trust to speak into
our lives and 'speak the truth in love', when we need to be corrected.
Proverbs 18:24, our Lord and Friend is the 'friend who sticks closer than a
brother'. He will never leave nor forsake us, always loves us, always accepts us,
and always wants the best for us.
God's abundant blessings.
