Ron DeSantis is a Double Ivy, but he's gotten failing marks from the Sierra Club over the years.
In New Hampshire, he finally got to have his say, in response to a question about Florida's environmental issues.
"So, first of all, Sierra Club is a far left wing radical organization. They are about partisanship. They are not recognizing what we've done when I came in," DeSantis said, before discussing his approach to "environmental conservation" and his opposition from "Big Sugar" when he ran in 2018.
"They spent tens of millions of dollars against me and they couldn't stop me," DeSantis said.
The Governor lauded his own record as singularly transformative.
"And I've been recognized by groups like the Everglades Foundation, ones that aren't as partisan as Sierra Club, as really having been the father of modern Everglades restoration," DeSantis said.
The Sierra Club weighed in back in 2022, backing Charlie Crist in the Primary and General Elections.
They have also been unsparing with their criticisms of DeSantis.
"Sierra Club Florida has consistently graded Governor DeSantis' environmental record with 'F's' for good reason. Rather than prioritizing the well-being of our people and environment, the Governor and his administration have focused on culture war signaling and spending taxpayer dollars on political stunts that harm real people. DeSantis' constant mismanagement and lack of leadership have had a devastating impact on our state, and should serve as a stark warning of his lack of fitness for any office," said Emily Gorman, the club's Florida Director.
