1 Corinthians 12 (selected verses) "For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ."
Some time ago I sat and watched a piano tuner at work. The Grand Piano had had a lot of use, and over time had become untuneful and somewhat unpleasant to the ear. While the pitch of some of the notes were right on, others were a little flat, making the whole piano out of tune. It was the Piano Tuner's job to make sure that each note, tuned with other notes, made one harmonious sound.
Believers who have unique talents or ambitions can create a grating dissonance when brought together. In Galatians 5 Paul instructs believers to do away with "discord, jealousy, fits of rage, and selfish ambition", which would destroy our relationship with God and with others. Rather, we are encouraged to exercise the fruits of the Spirit; "love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."
Cindy Hess Kasper says 'When we live by the Spirit, we'll find it easier to avoid unnecessary conflict on nonessential matters. Our shared sense of purpose can be greater than our differences, and with God's help, each of us can grow in Grace and unity as we keep our hearts in tune with Him.'
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for creating us just as You wanted us to be. Would You help and teach us how to 'get in tune' and 'stay in tune' with Your Spirit's leading, so we may live in harmony with others. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.
