Chaplain's Chat
2 Timothy 3:16 "All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
I'm sure we can all remember times in our life when we needed to call on someone for advice on the direction we should take, or choices we needed to make, or support in a career move, or just wise counsel. These play a significant role in who we are and the place we find ourselves today. The training we received certainly came with a lot of teaching, reproof and correction, equipping us for whatever vocation we chose. Sometimes those connections and interactions with key people just seemed to happen without us looking for them, and at just the right time. That's not a coincidence.
The saying - "It's not what you know, it's who you know' - causes me to think on the truth within that. For if it wasn't for the WHO, would there be a WHAT? Knowledge has to come from somewhere. Someone has to teach, train and guide us.
2 Timothy draws a wonderful parallel to this and also includes the HOW. The belief that 'the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God, and that they only constitute the divine rule of Christian faith and practice.
God is the author and perfecter of our faith. He has given us His word to educate, teach, correct, discipline and guide us in this journey called life. What a great resource to show us HOW, when we consider that it comes from the Creator and Giver of life.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your word that shows us the How of life. You are the Creator, Preserver and Governor of all things, and you only want the best for us. You know the difficulties and struggles we face each day. So we thank You for Your Holy Spirit Who comforts and strengthens us. Please help us to read Your word, hear what You are saying to us, and help us to be obedient. In Jesus Name. Amen
