Chaplain's Chat
A thought I heard shared:
Louise suffers from muscular dystrophy, and while exiting a train station one day, she found herself faced with the near impossible task of climbing a large flight of stairs because of the absence of a working escalator or elevator. On the verge of tears, a man suddenly appeared, picked up her bag, and helped her up the stairs. When she turned to thank him, he was gone.
Michael was late for a meeting and already stressed from a relationship breakdown. He was battling peak hour traffic and it was raining, not a good time to get a flat tyre. Dressed in his suit with umbrella up, standing helplessly in the rain, a man stepped out from the crowd, helped him jack up the car and change the flat tyre. When Michael turned to thank him , he was gone.
Who were these mysterious helpers? Kind strangers, or something more? The popular portrayed image of angels being radiant or winged creatures is only half true. Others though, come with dusty feet, ready for a meal, and are easily mistaken for everyday people. The writer of Hebrews says, that by showing hospitality to strangers, we could be entertaining angels.
Hebrews 13:2 "Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing, some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it."
We don't know if Louise and Michael's helpers were angels. But according to Scripture, they could have been. Angels are at work right now, helping God's people. They can appear as ordinary people, even people on the street.
Thank You Heavenly Father, that You love and care for us so much that You would send Your angels to help us in times of need. Lord, may Your Spirit also comfort and strengthen us and our families, as we face the challenges that life throws at us. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.
