Dear sixth grade me,
I'm an adult, so I know you don't want to listen to me, But I have some things to tell you, and I want you to know them. They won't change your future but they'll help keep you going.
1- The world is a better place with you in it. Don't ever think you don't matter. You won't be the most popular but that's because being the most popular is hard work. You'll have better things to do. And your friends are better than all the popular kids.
2- That boy you like is a jerk. Boys that tease you like that don't like you. He's a flat-out jerk, and you will find better. Trust me, a boy that likes you will never let you go. He won't make you feel small, he will make you feel like sunshine.
3- Bullies hurt you to make themselves feel better. Your strict parents are enviable (and annoying).
4- Moving to Germany will be the best thing that ever happens to you. It won't be like Korea. You will find friends and happiness that will help carry you the rest of your life.
5- Not all your decisions will be good ones. Embrace who you are. Do NOT compare yourself to others because it will never be a fair comparison. You will be loved and remembered best as you are.
6- There is nothing "wrong" with you, the words just haven't been made yet. It's okay that math is a struggle. It's okay to switch journals without filling them cover to cover to feel a little "fresh start." It's okay to like boys and girls and something in between. It's okay to have crushes- crushes are fun. But watch for the boys who have a crush on you, and leave that bully alone.
7- Don't ask for school detention just to escape your classrooms. Know from the bottom of my heart your school counselor sucks and this school failed to help you. There will be others and you will learn to thrive.
Don't give up. Never give up. (Unless it's smoking, that hurts our lungs and sucks.)
Love,
Older me
Dear Older me,
What have we done with our life? Are you a singer? What did you mean about this boy? He's so cute though.
6th Grade me (from 6th grade me I mean)
Dear younger me,
He might look cute but he's mean and a coward. Just like that kid who wanted to throw a party when he heard you were moving to Germany. They are not worth your time, and you deserve and will have better. Even that kid who moved away is better than him, and he was an idiot. We won't always make the best boyfriend choices, but we learn what real love is. And once we learn we will never settle again.
Keep your head up, you'll get there. I promise.
Love,
Older me.
