Welcome to Eternal Springs, Arkansas, a small Ozarks town where everyone knows everyone else and leaving town for better things is mostly a dream. The discovery of a strange book, however, gives five teenage friends a chance at something bigger, if they can only figure out the mystery — but in the end, it only leads to disaster. Fast-forward 15 years and everyone is living their own lives as adults and trying to forget their strange small-town past. But when one friend calls them back to town urgently, they have to answer because of their oath. And finish what they started. This book begins with a set-up I've read plenty of times before: a group of adults finally facing a big event in their past that has affected all of them (think IT by Stephen King, for example). But after that, The Wonder State quickly presented me with one of the coolest premises and plots that I had read in a long time, and one that really set my imagination spinning (I won't give it away). I sped through it, and since then, I've been thinking about it a good deal – always the sign of a great book. Get cuddled up in your blankets and heat up your warm beverage of choice, this one is worth it. Sarah Aswell, Senior Editor |
