"Hey, Steve!" You may be saying. "Where have you been?"
No?
Well. I'll tell you.
I've been around, but I've been distracted. A week ago, Saturday, was mine and Lucie's 29th wedding anniversary!
Yes!
We went out to our favorite steak house, then we went to a bar where some friends performed with their band. It was a fun evening.
But then, a week ago Sunday, I heard water running and discovered a leaking hot water pipe behind our dishwasher.
Alas.
I turned off the hot water and sent a message to the plumbers who'd replaced our toilets. They called Monday morning but couldn't come out until Tuesday.
There wasn't terrible flooding, the plumber felt the best path forward was to get a water damage mitigation service to dry everything out and I agreed. Unfortunately, that's entailed a parade of kitchen-ripper-outers and asbestos testers and dish-packer-uppers.
And, still to come are the insurance adjusters and the actual plumbing repair (he capped the leaking line so we can have hot water in the rest of the house) and the kitchen-put-back-togetherers. With that we'll most likely get new cabinets and countertops as well as new tile for at least the kitchen. Hopefully the insurance will cover it, minus the deductible. They haven't weighed in yet. We know they won't cover the plumbing repair.
So, right now our kitchen is ripped up and drying out. It's enclosed in plastic because the sheet rock tested positive for trace amounts of asbestos. Our fridge and our dishwasher are in the family room. Our coffee pot and our toaster are in the living room. Our stove is on the floor. The cabinets and counters are lying in a crazy mound of wood and nails in our family room.
It's surely not convenient.
Dinner will be bagged salads and microwave and air fryer food and cold cuts for the foreseeable future.
At least we didn't have plans for Thanksgiving at our house. I'm thankful for that! (See what I did, there?)
Anyhow. That's that. There's nothing for it. Everything will be restored, bit by bit.
Here's some pictures:

everything but the…never mind
