3 John 2 "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."
This has been a life verse to me. I was reading a story recently and felt reminded of our Lord and Friend's desire that we would all display the abundant life He purchased for us at the cross.
The story likened your life to a voyage, each one being the captain of a cargo ship, responsible to acquire, protect, manage and deliver merchandise for its rightful owners – you are a steward. Despite your skills, you suffered loss from time to time due to foul weather which required you to jettison cargo. However, even though doldrums sometimes threatened, you have sailed on through tempest and calm. One day you received a great commission – a voyage that would require you to sail far beyond the familiar harbors and stretches of the ocean. The risks are great, but the reward is greater. The one who has chartered your ship is the most successful merchant in the world. He is looking for partners, and this voyage is to be the first stage leading to a permanent partnership. He quickly explains that though you may be skeptical that your small-time vessel may not be a viable candidate for his fleet, you can rest assured that your craft will be refitted at many of the ports on the journey in order to accommodate the accumulating goods. Your task is to deliver these goods at a final destination on a faraway shore. Destiny.
We must continually consult the Holy Spirit for guidance and allow Him to train our vision upon our ultimate goal – Jesus, the One who has gone before us as our model of stewardship and the embodiment of the prosperous soul.
In this story, it is the ship itself, where the condition of our souls is like the capacity of the ship. It determines what we can be entrusted to carry. Our co-operation with our Lord and our Friend causes our souls to expand and grow in our ability to follow His call and purpose for our lives.
God Bless
