The Whole Armor of God Part 5
(5) the helmet of salvation guards our head, the brain, the mind (6) the sword of the Spirit defends and attacks – both offensive and defensive.
Ephesians chapter 6 verse 17 "and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God". 1 Thessalonians 5:8 tells us to put on faith and love as a breastplate, and to wear the hope of salvation as a helmet".
As we wear the helmet of salvation every day, our minds become insulated against the suggestions, desires and traps the enemy lays for us. This hope is not passive but the confident expectation of good. The soldiers helmet offered protection from arrows and swords, and at the same time could identify which army the soldier belonged to. When facing the enemy, remember what Christ has done for you. The helmet of salvation reminds us we are not alone. (Matthew 28:20)
The helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit are the last two pieces of armor mentioned here, and they cooperate with each other because the way we think is greatly impacted by the words we hear and speak.
Let's reflect and mediate on the helmet of salvation in this series of the armor God has provided of us, and we write on the sword of the Spirit next week.
Shalom Kath
