The NHS is holding a Refugee Career Education event on Monday 27 November from 10am-6pm at Sheffield City Hall, Barkers Pool, S1 2JA.
This NHS Careers Education event is for refugees who have made South Yorkshire their home. The intention of the event is to provide information on anything potential applicants may want or need to know about working for the NHS, such as where they could work, the types of job they could do and the training / development opportunities available.
Alongside this, there will be organisations present to support with things like identifying transferable skills, CV writing and interview skills and English language skills .
The event is both for individuals who have previous healthcare experience, as well as those who don't.
What can you expect on the day?
- NHS offer – hear from local trusts about the variety of roles available, how they can support individuals into post, what training and development opportunities can be found in the NHS, and information about some of the benefits of working for the NHS. Trusts will also be offering guidance around application processes and supporting attendees with next steps.
- Professional registration – for attendees who are a professionally registered member of staff - for example, a nurse, a midwife, an allied health Professional (e.g. physiotherapist, radiographer) a dentist or a doctor – colleagues in this section of the event will be able to help identify what individuals need to do in order to register in the UK. Staff will also identify how they can support with next steps. Guidance will also be provided about English language requirements and what individuals can do whilst they await registration.
- Employability support – colleagues in this section will help individuals develop their CV and provide support with the NHS application and interview process, whether attendees know what roles they are interested in or not. Attendees will also be able to speak to colleagues about how to identify transferable skills, and understand what support is available for them within the local community.
- Additional support – local charities and organisations will be present in this section of the event to help with wider support – this could be anything from English language classes to wellbeing.
Attendees are encouraged to register for the event, however walk-ins are also welcome on the day.
