We've now had a couple nights where it's gotten down to 22° or lower, and the garden is nearly done.
Tomatoes and peppers were removed from their frames. I had enthusiastic helpers; boys love destroying things, and this was a great opportunity to let them wreak havoc and mayhem, to my benefit!
The last few cool weather crops -celery and kale- have been covered in row fabric.
Some of it looks quite spooky, in the right light!
The half of the garden with nothing left to harvest has been fenced off and turned over to the chickens.
We blew the driveway clear of leaves and hauled them in for the birds to play in. Trees pull minerals up from deeper in the earth than most garden plants can reach, and this is one way I remineralize my garden soil.
We are almost done putting the garden to bed for the winter. I'm always relieved to be done picking - although I'll be missing all the fresh produce soon!
