In Luke 14 Verse 7 to 14: Jesus teaches about Humility.
Jesus used the occasion of a banquet to give insights into humility and service.
There are two parts to the teaching. In verses 7 to 10: Jesus addresses the guest in regard to humility.
In verse 12 to 14: Jesus spoke to the host about serving others.
In new Testament days, the closer you sat to the host, the higher you stood on the social ladder and the more attention you received from others. Naturally many people rushed to the most important table when they were let in, because they wanted to be important. The kind of attitude doesn't give you real success.
Humility is a fundamental grace in the Christian life, and yet it is elusive; if you know you have it, you have lost it. Our Lord and Our Friend is the greatest example of humility, and we would do well to ask the Holy Spirit to enable us to imitate Him. Philippians 2 verse 3 to 5.
Our motive for serving others must be the praise of God and not the applause of people. We should not aim for temporary recognition in this world, but the eternal joy of heavens reward. On the day of judgement, many who today are first in the eyes of people will be last in God"s eye. Luke 13 Verse 30.
Humility is often called Bridled strength, Galatians 5 Verse 24; "Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit's leading in every part of our lives.
