View all responses Sensory memories are the deepest memories that our brains can carry. I have written time after time about baking bread with my great grandmother Doris. We baked bread every day. At least twice a week, I stand at the counter as the smell of yeast wafts through the kitchen. I weigh the flours and begin mixing the dough. There is a point as I knead teh dough, I can feel my grandmother's gnarled hands over mine.
