A brand-new Godzilla movie made by a Toho Studios in Japan with subtitles? Sign me up, I am there opening weekend. Hopefully I'm expecting some *Old School* Godzilla mayhem.
*The MEAT* The story, wait for it… The story is surprisingly good and solid. I was expecting something a little more on the cheesy side but, I have to admit the story surprised me with emotion and historical references to the Original "Godzilla" movie made almost 70 years ago.
*The PATATOES* The acting here is very hard to judge because I am too busy reading the screen for dialogue. So, let me judge the special effects of Godzilla instead. Obviously, this is made on a much smaller budget, but it does work out pretty well in fact it looks better than the big budget "the Meg" movies.
*The VERDICT* I fully admit I was expecting a typical foreign made Godzilla movie here that was full of cheese and fun. But what I got surprised the Heck out of me because I found myself interested in all the characters and their plight to defeat Godzilla. And for once, I actually was rooting for the humans to defeat the indestructible Monster! I know, I always root for Godzilla so that just proves this Godzilla movie *Works* and is surprisingly good for a Godzilla movie. If you are a Godzilla fan, it is worth seeing in theaters. If you are not, still a fun film to watch at home sometime.
