It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, or is it? When we moved out of the last home that we owned in 2021, we had no idea of the timeline associated with getting resettled in a new home. Except for a bookcase, we put all our furniture and mostly everything we owned into storage. It was one of those floor-to-ceiling storage extravaganzas that would become an heir's worst nightmare had we not survived the temporary housing glitch.
Historically over the past two decades, we have displayed at least half a dozen nativity scenes in our home at Christmas. That didn't happen while we were in temporary housing. We only took one nativity set with us to display, but for the life of me I don't remember where we displayed it. We were in that setting over two Christmases.
We opted not to move our artificial tree into storage when we moved in 2021. The box was huge, and we intuitively knew that it would be too big to place into storage along with everything else. It was a proud moment for me when we parted with tree. The General had selected the tree when we purchased it years earlier, and it was too big. Of course, that is my opinion. She will deny that I'm providing accurate information.
When we moved into our current home, all the boxes marked "Christmas" were eventually moved into the walk-in attic. Trust me, I should know. I'm the one who assembled the shelving and who moved everything into the attic. Though I hated the fact that the General was very ill at the time, it at least enabled me to place things in the attic that I hoped I'd never see elsewhere inside our home. That included a lot of boxes marked Christmas.
Ours in an open floor plan and guess what? We don't have a place to display half a dozen nativity scenes. In addition, to display even one nativity scene, we must move something and put it out of sight in order to incorporate a nativity scene in its place.
Okay, so its Christmas. I love the reason for the season, and we have three nativity scenes that I really treasure. I wanted to find display space for the nativity scenes last night, but the General was more concerned about getting the new tree out of the box.
You know what they say: "Sometimes you win/sometimes you lose." Don't believe it for a minute! To the General's credit, she did show me a picture of the tree she wanted to order. A simple nod on my part was all it took for the tree to be delivered the following day. At least, I could tell from the box that the tree was smaller than our last one.
I am confident that the General will figure all of this out. I've been up since 5:00 a.m. and have put up two of my favorite Nativity scenes. Trust me on this, in my head I can already hear, "No, No, No," coming from the General's lips. She's probably right, but I'm at a loss.
It isn't looking a lot like Christmas at our house, but I'm confident it will get there. It is all about timing and of course a favorable nod from the General.
All My Best!
Don
P.S. The hutch will be filled with Christmas dishes. The General has two sets to choose from.
