The Sun, Rupert Murdoch's downscale British tabloid is at it again. The paper claims Bond 26 will have two actors playing James Bond, one younger, one older.
The paper said one of the "top targets" of Eon Productions is actor Paul Mescal, 27, to play the younger version of Bond.
The story has no word on who supposedly is being sought to play the older version of Bond.
"Rumours about 007's potential replacement have been swirling for years," The Sun said.
What the story doesn't mention is The Sun has been one of the main sources of such rumors.
The tabloid said Nov. 27, 2022, that Aaron Taylor-Johnson was the "surprise frontrunner" to be Bond in Bond 26. The Sun then said Dec. 10, 2022, that Taylor-Johnson had filmed a gunbarrel logo scene "as filmmaker Eon Productions looks to reveal the franchise's new star in March."
In early 2023, other outlets got on the Taylor-Johnson bandwagon, including Puck News (which hedged its phrasing a bit), Yahoo Entertainment, Collider, and the New York Post (another Murdoch property).
As you may have noticed March 2023 came and went with no such announcement.
With this latest story, the Sun quoted an Eon spokesman as saying, "We do not comment on speculation." The spokesman wasn't identified.
Eon boss Barbara Broccoli has said repeatedly little to no work has been done on Bond 26.
