I had a few rough days this week. I've had a head cold that has knocked me out a few days, and it reminds me, now that I'm feeling a little better, why we prepare and get ahead of tasks!
Having a bad cold meant that I couldn't cook much for the family or myself. I had taken the turkey bones after thanksgiving and simmered them into a lovely broth that jiggled with good gelatin. Turns out I needed every ounce of that broth last week during my cold, and I wish I had more! I was super excited that it was right there in my freezer waiting for just such a time!
But having broth in the freezer isn't the only way I prepared and got ahead these past few weeks. I like to finish most of my Christmas shopping far earlier than most people, being almost complete by the shipping deadline to include stocking gifts. Because I have my shopping done, and much of my wrapping, I'm not behind after a week of needing to rest.
This is why we prepare. This is why we get ahead on gifts and tasks. My house probably needs a good cleaning today after me resting and not getting much done, but we're all still well fed and clothed. I thought of what my future self and my family might need and did those things. As a result, I'm healthier from the broth and not stressed about Christmas gifts!
I hope this little lesson on broth and preparedness has helped someone today! And I hope you're well and having a lovely Christmas season!
