Today was one of those started with an purposeful intention and ended with quite a different outcome. We had decided to go back country skiing as a family activity. We had an awesome time. However, we had some snow fall and th mini van got stuck. We knew we needed help. We were 10 miles from the closest house. It was a posted no trepassing. Colorado is a unique place. in New England, I wouldn't hesitate to stop at a country house and ask for help. It would be getting dark soon, so we needed help FAST. I knew that as a distance runner, I was the best chocie to go. I run a 12 minute mile, it took me 2 hours.
My husband is not patient with himself or towards other when he doesn't plan well. We didn't have things we needed. A shovel, cat litter for traction, and other items. I know that within myself, I don't take that well. I need a plan. I told my husband I was going by myself, I wasn't taking the dog either.
As, I was running to the house, one car stopped and as soon, the man rolled down his window, I refused his help. It was a vibe. As a woman, I trust that gut feeling. I continued to run. I reached the house we had seen on the way. A young man was doing his chores on a very larger ATV. He noticed my New England accent and inquired what I was doing up there. I explained pur situtation. He laughed and told me it happens all the time.
We drove up and he noticed I had pepper spray on my camel back. He laughed, you know that won't touch a bear. An hour and a half later, we were unstuck. We just walked in the door. The kids and the husband are eating the soup I made last night. I was starved from the skiing and the running, so I am having a big bowl of pasta and tomatoes. I always crave pasta after a long run.
So, glad to be home after meeting such a kind person who helped us.
